Canadian Officials who work with the Refugee office called Guyana Indian Heritage Association (GIHA) and one of their questions was how is that we have an Indian Government in power and Indian people are being attacked and brutalized and seeking refugee status?

Petition delivered to Parliament
Dear Editor:
The first Petition requesting the staying of all removals of refugee claimants to Guyana in view of the security concerns in that country was delivered to Parliament on April 30, 2008.

Hansard, the official Parliamentary record indicates that the Honourable Gurbax Malhi, MP for Brampton-Gore-Malton, delivered the Petition with over 500 signatures.

Many other signatures are still coming in and it is anticipated that other MP's will also be requested to submit these on behalf of their own constituents who are concerned about the situation in Guyana.
However the more immediate action stems from the fact that Guyanese are still being forced to return home at this time if they are not successful in their claims to prove that they are Convention Refugees or otherwise deserving of Protection.
If anyone still needs to muster further community support they can get a Petition by calling my office at 905 671 9233.
