A ten-year-old girl from Mabaruma was yesterday flown to the city after she was allegedly raped by a soldier. The child, who is now a patient at a city hospital, was said to have been sexually assaulted yesterday morning by the soldier who is stationed at a Guyana Defence Force base in the north west. She was first examined by medical personnel in the area who recommended that she be transferred to Georgetown for treatment. She will undergo further tests today. Meanwhile, the alleged rapist is now under investigation by the army and will soon be summoned to a disciplinary hearing. |
