Policeman freed of manslaughter
POLICEMAN Orville Tucker, indicted for manslaughter at the Demerara Assizes, was freed by Justice Roxanne George yesterday.

The cop had been accused of unlawfully killing Carl Abrams, who was shot dead on November 13, 2005, at Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara.

But the judge upheld a no-case submission by Senior Counsel Bernard De Santos and ruled that the Prosecution, conducted by State Counsel Fabayo Azore, failed to prove that the shooting was unlawful.

No one saw what happened and the accused claimed he was forced to fire his gun after being attacked.

De Santos submitted that Tucker was defending himself in accordance with his training.
