Acting President joins Muslims for Eid celebration

RAMADAN, a month of fasting and prayer for Muslims worldwide, ended with the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr on Wednesday. Acting President Samuel Hinds took time out to join several Muslims who converged at the Peter’s Hall Masjid on the East Bank of Demerara for their Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.

Among those present were Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr Frank Anthony; Minister of Labour Manzoor Nadir, President (ag) of the Peter’s Hall Masjid Farouk Hassan, Indian High Commissioner to Guyana, Subit Kumar Mandal; Indian Commemoration Trust President Yesu Persaud and United States Embassy’s Charge d’ Affaires Karen Williams who all brought Eid-ul-Fitr messages and greetings.

Eid-ul-Fitr or Eid is a very auspicious occasion for Muslims and was said to have been first celebrated by the Prophet Muhammad in AD 624 after winning the battle of Badr.
